The 7th Regiment Youth Performing Arts Organization’s Board of Directors is excited to announce the 2017 Corps Administrative Team: Kevin Lowery-Director, Stephen Klepner-Assistant Director and Jim O’Neil-Assistant Director. We look forward to supporting them and anticipate an exciting 2017!
Director: Kevin Lowery
Kevin Lowery is ecstatic to be returning to 7th Regiment in 2017 for his fourth year with the corps. He has performed the roles of Brass Caption Head, brass tech, and a member of the design team.
He is in his 17th year of public school teaching and is the director of bands at Ponus Ridge Middle School in Norwalk, CT. He is originally from Brick, New Jersey, where he graduated from Brick Memorial High School. Kevin holds a Master of Science in Music Education from Western Connecticut State University and earned his undergraduate Music Education degrees from the University of Connecticut.
As a former marching member of the Rosemont Cavaliers, he was voted Cavalier Rookie of the Year in 1998. His drum corps teaching experience includes brass tech work for the 2000-2001 Cavaliers and 2004-2005 Crossmen. He also served as Brass Caption Head for the DCA Open Class Finalist Connecticut Hurricanes in 2012.
Kevin has been a consultant and instructor to marching band programs across Connecticut, primarily splitting 16 years between the Trumbull High School and Norwalk High School Marching Bands.
Outside of his ensemble teaching, Kevin is an active brass clinician, private teacher, and pit orchestra performer. He is also a music adjudicator for USBands and the Musical Arts Conference.
Kevin lives in the New Haven area with his wife and three children.
Assistant Director in Charge of Operations: Stephen Klepner
Stephen is excited to return for his fourth season working with 7th Regiment! He has been on the brass instruction staff as a baritone technician since 2014.
Originally from Bordentown, New Jersey, Stephen received his BA in Music from the University of New Haven and is in the process of completing his Masters in Music Education from Castleton University in Vermont.
Stephen performed with the Jersey Surf Drum and Bugle Corps for the 2007 and 2008 seasons, as well as the Boston Crusaders Drum and Bugle Corps in 2011.
He was heavily involved in the growth and expansion of the University of New Haven Marching Band program, which, in a span of six years, grew from 20 to 250 members. He has also served as the winds caption head at Naugatuck High School from 2011-2014.
Currently, Stephen is the Graduate Assistant at Castleton University, where is he is working with Castleton University and local music educators to strengthen marching music’s footprint in Vermont communities.
Assistant Director: Jim O’Neil
Jim has been a member of the 7th Regiment staff since 2003, serving in various capacities. His primary role over the last 11 years has been as an assistant corps director. He has been involved in the activity all of his life, having marched in the Milford Shoreliners and St. Rita’s Brassmen in the 1970s and 1980s. He is currently a member of the Connecticut Alumni Drum and Bugle Corps.
Jim is a local fire chief and works for the Connecticut State Fire Marshals Office. Mr. O’Neil is excited to continue in this capacity for the 2017 season as the corps continues its’ successful journey.
